Volunteering
Citizens on Patrol

The Oro-Medonte Community Policing Committee has introduced a new programme for our area called C.O.P. (Citizen On Patrol).

This is a volunteer programme that allows average citizens the opportunity to improve the quality of life in their communities. These volunteers assist the OPP to reduce crime in their neighborhoods by patrolling in 3 or 4 hour shifts using their own vehicles while observing and reporting by cellular telephone, activities of a suspicious nature.

Training is provided to improve the detailing of observations and to ensure that the most useful descriptions are received. Reimbursement of gas expenses is given.

C.O.P. is not a vigilante organization and citizens do not have any extra powers.

If you are interested, please call 325-5926 or

The Barrie Club has over 100 members who give 13,000 plus hours per year in service benefiting the young, the elderly and the citizens of Barrie in general. Active members give a minimum of 100 hours of service per year.

Activites of the club members include:

  • Staffing of "The Gingham Door", a consignment shop offering women's nearly new clothing.
  • The annual spring "Odds and Sods" sale

  • Volunteering at Grove Park, Leisureworld, and the I.O.O.F Homes to assist residents with their ongoing music programs, bingo games, and special parties.

Fitness
Pilates various dates and times

Pilates is an exercise that focuses on the 'core' or torso. It builds great posture, a strong abdominal section and low back while stretching and strengthening the rest of the body. We use the stability ball which improves balance and uses muscles you didn't even know you had. We have a teacher certified in Pilates . She has also studied kinesiology and health sciences.

"I completely trust her to take care of my chiropractic patients' backs."
Dr. Julie Iamarino

We have grown from 1 class/week to 8 classes/week and are adding more all the time. We have daytime, evening and Saturday classes. The classes are one hour and there are 10 people/class to allow for lots of individual attention.

If you are interested in Pilates please call Dr. Julie Iamarino at 835-6031.

Gilda's Club

A new way to contribute to Gilda's Club Barrie
It seems that everywhere we shop there is a Loyalty Program that allows consumers to collect points towards rewards, but how often do each of us actually accumulate enough points to take advantage of the rewards offered? Imagine if you could add your points to the points of other people in an effort to help Gilda’s Club! In cooperation with HBC, Gilda’s Club Barrie is now able to make use of your HBC Rewards Points to purchase a wide range of products for the Clubhouse and the office. The HBC group of stores included The Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters, Designer Depot and Fields. Working together to collect points, the total will grow to amounts large enough to allow us to purchase large items for the clubhouse such as appliances, furnishings, recreational supplies for Noogieland, and so much more.

The attached document will provide instructions to transfer your current and future points to Gilda’s Club Barrie. Please pass this opportunity on to anyone who you feel may want to help us in this way.
